Hi.
My name is Jack Lawrence.
I'm a 27 year old human, currently living and working in London. This is my website, where you can watch me slowly come to terms with the fact that I want to do creative work.
In May of 2020, I started a project to actually pursue my creative ambitions called A Year Of Bad Art. During that year I did all sorts of videos (mostly for YouTube) and bits of writing, but nothing really clicked.
However, in the very last week of that project, I made a science TikToK which went viral. In the four weeks following that video, I went from around 100 followers to 75,000. My page is here.
I’m trying to use the platform to explain concepts in STEM, Philosophy and to talk about anything else that interests me. At the time of writing, my TikTok videos have amassed around 20 million views, and I’m sitting at around 195,000 followers.
Aside from this, by day I work in cybersecurity. By night, I write, read, film and edit.
My main interests outside of the above are fitness, manga, and gaming.
Recent backstory:
I studied Physics for undergrad at Cambridge, graduating in 2016. Afterwards, I worked in London for a year and was overcome by existential angst and a fair seasoning of depression.
As such, I ran back, screaming, into the arms of academia and more debt. This resulted in me completing a masters degree in the Philosophy of Physics at Oxford from 2017 to 2018. I wrote about the metaphysics of time, the one-way speed of light, explanations in science and the H-Theorem.
I was offered a place to do a PhD at Oxford with the Philosophy of Physics department, but was unable to accept due to issues concerning a variety of aspects of my life, including mental health and financial worries.
Since then I’ve worked pretty normal jobs (I have a LinkedIn if you really want to look me up) and mostly just spent my time doing improv and being anxious about not writing enough.
I have a troupe in London which regularly does shows (outside of COVID times), check that out here - Hivemind Improv Facebook page
